Artist Bio
Linda Gates
(Bio as of January 2009)
Linda Gates most recently collaborated with the Goodman on Desire Under the Elms during the 2008/2009 Season. She returns to the Goodman where her recent credits include: Passion Play: a cycle in three parts, Oedipus Complex, A Christmas Carol, Pericles, Crumbs from the Table of Joy and The Dreams of Sarah Breedlove. Other Chicago theater credits include The Color Purple, Betrayal at Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Northlight Theatre, Writers’ Theatre, Remy Bumppo Theatre Company, Victory Gardens Theater, Lookingglass Theatre Company and Court Theatre. She has also worked extensively in opera and was the English diction coach at The Metropolitan Opera for Placido Domingo in The First Emperor and The Magic Flute directed by Julie Taymor as well as numerous productions at The Lyric Opera. For Chicago Opera Theatre she coached the spoken Shakespeare text for Beatrice and Benedict. New York credits include The Bacchae, Heartbreak House and Macbeth with Nicol Williamson. Ms. Gates is Head of Voice at Northwestern University and is the author of Voice for Performance.
